 Spokane Youth Symphony Mission Statement
To provide exemplary orchestral education and performance opportunities
for the youth of the Inland Northwest

The Spokane Youth Symphony, formed nearly 75 years ago, began in 1949 as a teaching orchestra environment for young musicians in the Spokane area. Designed to provide the students with large group performance opportunities, as well as chamber music experience, the youth orchestra program allows students to enhance their musical skills by interacting with other musicians of varying abilities and performing music they find challenging yet attainable.

Weekly rehearsals are held to prepare pieces for concerts given in the fall, winter, and spring. There is also a concert following the summer camp for the senior orchestras. In addition, periodic sectionals are scheduled throughout each concert season for the students to experience a more concentrated study of their instrumental parts and to have the opportunity to further understand the piece by receiving training and guidance by professional musician coaches.

By adhering to a high standard of excellence, by offering these young musicians a progressive course of study, and by nurturing that early, budding love of music, the Spokane Youth Symphony experience provides the sense of pride that is established as the young musicians continue to develop their musical talent into young adulthood. In addition, lifelong skills are developed that will serve them throughout their musical careers. The Spokane Youth Symphony depends upon the generous support of our community to help us to continue to strengthen the musical enrichment of our students and to build orchestras of the future.

As a supporting member of the Spokane Youth Symphony, you can join hands with our fine young people as well as continue to steer them toward a bright musical and educational path to follow and to enrich their talents. Your donations are used to provide financial assistance to those children who might otherwise not be able to participate in our programs, for purchase of instruments and equipment, and for operational expenses. Please consider assisting us by making a contribution. Thank you for helping youth make beautiful music.

Non-discrimination Policy

The Spokane Youth Symphony admits members based on musical ability and potential, as demonstrated in audition. Musicians are selected based on their playing ability and the need of instrumentation to create a balanced orchestra. The Spokane Youth Symphony does not discriminate based on race, color, sex, creed, religion, political belief, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, or ethnicity in the administration of its educational policies, admission policies, scholarship programs, or other programs.
