Membership in the Spokane Youth Symphony is an honor and a privilege. The young musicians chosen by audition to play in these groups are expected to make membership a first priority among their many activities. Instrumentation and balance are established at the time of audition and must be maintained. If the orchestras are to provide the highest possible level of performance, preparation of the music and attendance at all rehearsals and concerts for the entire season is of utmost importance.
All members will adhere to the following Code of Conduct:

Attendance is required at all regular and sectional rehearsals. Upon arrival, check in with the Orchestra Aide before taking your place. Students should arrive 15 minutes before rehearsal to tune and be ready to play.

Bring a music stand and pencil to all rehearsals.
|
|
3.
|
Return music promptly to the librarian when asked to do so. If a student must leave the orchestra, all music must be returned within two weeks of leaving or a penalty will be assessed. If music is lost or damaged, student will be charged the cost of replacement.

If you borrow anything, return it!
|
|
5.
|
Your complete attention is required at all times.
|

|
All students must respect the property of our rehearsal and concert locations.
|

7.
|
We strictly prohibit the use of alcohol, tobacco and drugs. Any student in violation will be immediately removed from the orchestra.

8.
|
In matters of seating, the Conductors decision is final.
|
Absences
Illness or
family emergency will be excused absences.
Please notify the conductor or aide before
rehearsal begins.
Remember, rehearsals are very important and
should take priority over other activities, with
very few exceptions. Also remember, (1) illness
(2) family emergency (3) involvement in a school
activity and (4) job-related conflicts (make
other arrangements if possible) are excused
absences. All other absences will be unexcused.

Concerts
Each orchestra
schedules an average of three concerts each
season. Students may be asked to participate in
other special performances. Musicians in the
orchestras will be expected to participate in
all concerts.
Parents are responsible for transporting
students to and from concerts. Often there is a
final dress rehearsal before he concert.
We encourage carpooling and can provide you with
names of other members in your area.

The Spokane Youth Symphony requires formal dress for concert performances:
Intermediate String Orchestra, Junior
Orchestra and Junior Symphonic Orchestra:
Ladies: Long-sleeved white blouse, black over-the-knee length skirt or dress slacks, neutral or black stockings and black dress shoes and subdued accessories.
Gentlemen: Long-sleeved white shirt, long black tie, black dress pants, black dress shoes and black socks.
Spokane Youth Orchestra
Ladies: Long black dress (long-sleeved) or black skirt and long-sleeved black blouse, black dress shoes and stockings and subdued accessories. Dress slacks not preferred but are acceptable.
Gentlemen: Black or dark suit, white dress shirt, black bow tie, black dress shoes and black socks.
All Orchestras: No black jeans, pants with cargo pockets, casual shoes (Birkenstocks/boots/tennis shoes) or low cut blouses.
IF YOU ARRIVE FOR A CONCERT DRESSED INAPPROPRIATELY, YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PLAY.
